LSU Participates in Equine Colic Symposium

The 6th Equine Colic Research Symposium was held in Athens, Ga., November 8-11, 1998. There were approximately 190 registrants representing 13 countries. This symposium is held every 3-4 years and brings together the world leaders in equine gastrointestinal and related research. A total of 112 research abstracts were presented in oral or poster format by the participants. LSU contributed more abstracts than any other institution worldwide. The following LSU faculty, residents, interns, graduate students and veterinary students attended the Symposium: Dr. Alexandra Baudena, Dr. Aloisio Bueno, Lee Ann Curtis, Dr. Allison Eddy, Dr. Dennis French, Ashley Holm, Dr. Jeremy Hubert, Dr. Thomas Klei, Dr. Rustin Moore, Dr. Mustajab Mirza, and Dr. Joanne Tetens.

The following abstracts were presented:

Baudena MA, Larsen M, Klei TR: Efficacy of Duddingtonia flagrans in reducing infective equine cyathostome L3 on pasture in southern Louisiana.

Bueno AC, Cornick-Seahorn JL, Moore RM, Seahorn TL: Cardiopulmonary effects of low-dose medetomidine and xylazine administered intravenously in endotoxin-challenged horses.

Bueno AC, Moore RM, Seahorn TL, Cornick-Seahorn JL, Horohov DW: Quantification of plasma and urine nitric oxide (NO) concentrations in experimentally induced endotoxemia in horses.
