Volume 7, Number 1 Fall, 1999
Poor performance is a common problem in horses of all breeds and athletic uses.  Poor performance can result from exercise intolerance associated with abnormalities of the cardiovascular or respiratory systems, endocrine (hormonal) alterations, inadequate thermoregulation, neurologic abnormalities, or pain associated with the musculoskeletal system resulting in lameness.  Treatment of poor performance is dependent upon determining an accurate diagnosis or cause of the problem.

A wide range of diagnostic methods are available to determine the cases of poor performance, including endoscopy, ultrasonography, treadmill evaluation and nuclear scintigraphy (bone scans). Click here to find out more about our diagnostic capabilities for diagnosing poor performance.

Summer pasture-associated obstructive pulmonary disease can severely impair your horse's health during certain times of the year.  Click here to learn more about how  this disease can be managed.
