| Kentucky Derby Party Held at Camelot Club |
The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine hosted its first Kentucky Derby Party at the Camelot Club in Baton Rouge on Saturday, May 6, 2000.
The event was sponsored by the Companions of the School of Veterinary Medicine to benefit the LSU Equine Health Studies Program and the renovations to the Equine Intensive Care Unit.
Guests viewed the televised Run for the Roses while sipping mint juleps from souvenir Churchill Downs glasses and enjoying traditional Derby cuisine.
Ladies wearing their finest Kentucky Derby hats participated in a hat contest, judged by Chris Russo Love of In Register magazine. The winning entry was worn by Marcie Blaize, guest of Bill and Amy Strain. |

Ken Fellin Jewelers donated a marasite and silver necklance, and the LSU Athletic Department furnished a football game jersey, which were auctioned after the race. Special thanks to Brent and Dr. Paul "Dexter" Gary of Wandaland Ranch, who purchased tickets for several interns, residents, and technicians.
Companions president Lanier Cordell presented a donation of $1,350 to the School of Veterinary Medicine for renovations to the Equine Intensive Care Unit.
