Dr. Becky McConnico and Leslie Talley perform gastroscopy. | The EHSP thanks the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association Equine Committee for donating to LSU a three-meter videoendoscope and light source valued at $20,000.
Dr. Rustin Moore, chief of equine medicine and surgery, said, "Acquisition of this equipment will enable complete examination of the stomach and pylorus of adult horses, which will enhance our diagnostic capabilities."
The stress of racing, training, and other strenuous exercise makes gastric ulceration a substantial problem of race horses and show horses. Athletic performance is often adversely affected by gastric ulceration. The videoendo-scope will aid in diagnosis of this relatively common, but difficult to detect, condition. |
